A note about "Search Engine Optimization"
It is not my intent, with this article, to bash anyone. As mentioned below, I use the term "search engine optimization" myself. On the other hand, it is my intent to state the, perhaps, not-so-obvious to those millions who have fallen prey to almighty convenience. One word cannot convey every meaning: every initialization or abreviation is not an acronym; everything is not a solution; and "SEO" is not all encompassing. Illiteracy is a deep rut which we will not climb out of until the online community learns to think for themselves!
I'd like to let you in on a well-known secret in the "SEO" industry. You should read this especially if you are new to having a website online, or having your site's pages optimized for search engine results.
'Search engine optimization' is better worded 'webpage optimization', for no search engine optimizer can optimize a search engine. It is a poorly worded term in that it can be misleading to business owners (and non-business owners) new to having their websites online.

This being said, read closely when searching for providers of these services. Some people make factual claims and honestly want to help you (while putting some bread on the table, of course :] ). Some make false claims just to make a fast buck, at your expense. While others just copy-n-paste whatever sounds good at the time (from other people's articals!) and haven't a clue as to what they're talking about (some of these don't even bother to read the full text!).
Of course, there is nothing wrong with using the term 'search engine optimization'. It has basically become a "household name" for the services involved. I even use it myself. But the truth behind the term is that the search engine is not being optimized, or manipulated, as some might have you believe. On the contrary, it is each individual webpage that is being built, reworded, or, in some cases, rebuilt entirely, with the hope of achieving a higher position (not to be confused with 'PageRank'), in the search results.
If you're wondering if it is, in fact, possible to optimize or manipulate a search engine, the answer is yes. After all, much like your web browser, a search engine is a program. But I can't do it, nor can any other webpage (or "search engine") optimizer. To find out who can, read this article written by some non-copy-n-pasters who do know what they're talking about.
